LO4- Short film Feedback Analysis

For our audience we got them to watch our short film and then asked them multiple questions.

Everyone enjoyed the film which is the goal of making a film.

From everyone saying they enjoyed the film and that the mice-en-scene was good we know that our film was put together well and didn't have parts in that made no sense at all.

Some people said there was editing in the film that could've been improved. We can improve these post production faults by having the team going through the edit with the editor making sure that everything is up to standard and if there are faults that can't be fixed then to find a way around it properly instead of upping the audio to much that could make it sound unprofessional.

We got told the wind was in the way of our audio, this problem could've been solved really easily by putting a wind protector on the mike for the outside scene making the wind less hearable if not cut out completely. We also could've turned the wind down with EQ in post production so you weren't able to hear it. Apart from the wind we can see that the audio throughout was consistent and done well.

The beginning shots is something somebody would change about the film, we assume its about the phone shots at the very start of the film, there could've been a variety of shots for the phone scene to show the characters movement and change in tone but instead we kept the same angle next time we will take in mind to not just keep a still camera when some camera movement can be involved to make it more engaging and Interesting. Audio was a change somebody would make this was because the sound was at different volume, this was a recording fault and next time we need to review the clip to make sure were happy with the audio in it not just the acting and the mise-en-scene.

Somebody didn't understand the start of the film, this was to add action and character straight away which was something some short films didn't use compared to ours, this worked as the straight away a robbery is happening which grabs the audiences attention. People also didn't understand the sausage roll scene we did this scene to make the main character look stupid and to add comedic parts to the film.

Any viewers enjoyed the parody of certain genres that we portrayed in our product and stated that it was good for its target audience, this shows how our use of film theories, miss-en-scene, and writing were able to create a product that engaged our target audience.

Viewers stated that the special effects seen within the project were engaging and fun, adding a lot to the narrative.

A lot of people in the survey stated that the narrative of the film was unpredictable, and hard to follow. Our product was the longest at 11 minutes. To help with this we could have spent more time trimming the fat off which would fix most of the pacing issues seen within the product. Also, when writing our script, we should include less improvisation and instead write character conversations that will pace well within the film. A lot of people in the survey stated that the narrative of the film was unpredictable, and hard to follow.

Most people who answered this question stated that the acting from Ellis, Me, and Toby the was great and elevated the narrative of the film. This proved to us that our choice of casting was exceptional for the film. However personally I do believe that it isn't perfect, as there were many times where the actors broke character within a scene. To combat this when filming, we filmed multiple takes off shots and used the best take from each scene. However, even with this there was still some scenes that had characters moving or talking when they shouldn't have been.

After reviewing the feedback from our survey, we saw that our product had some areas that could have been improved through spending more time planning and writing a story. We could have improved our script to know more about how the characters would interact. Plus, we could have made a more effective storyboard that would have explained more about the camera work and shot type seen within the product. We could've shot more scenes that helped explain the narrative more easier while trimming some un needed shots from the finished product that made it bloated. We could've included more camera angles when the camera was still, this would make the film more interesting and entertaining to watch. Reviewing our footage after we've shot it is also something that we need to remember as some of the audio was messed up and we couldn't fix it because we didn't have enough time to which could've been really easily fixed if we listened to the audio of the footage after we shot it to make sure its clear.
Strengths in our films was show clear in the question answers, Acting was definitely a strong point of our short film as everyone said it was good and you could tell watching the film that you got sucked into the characters and the way they acted. Special effects has also shown to be a strength in the film with the feedback saying it was good and that it helped the film flow more smoothly, genre was also a strong point in our film, we showed genre straight off the start with action taking place in the robbery scene. People said they wouldn't change anything about the film which shows an overall strength of the short film.
