About a girl
In 'about the girl' the short film suggests to the audience that the family hasn't got a lot of money this is told through how the girl mocks her mum saying "do I look like a fucking bank" and "not got enough to save for a piano", with these quotes we can say that they are lower class. We can tell throughout the Short that there is problems within the family as the parents are split up and the father doesn't want to live with his daughter and the daughter argues and hides a lot of things away from her mum.
At the start of the story we are told about the girls personality and how she wants to be a singer, how her friends are and how she cares about how she is perceived by others. Then through the middle of the story we get told about her family, she talks about her dad first and how she doesn't get to spend much time with him but he makes her watch him play football and they go to the pub after. We are given the idea that the girl is very independent as she is by herself majority of the time and we see her walking past lad who are older than her and she says "you won't catch nowt" to them when they are fishing and shouting and females in this day and age won't walk by themselves and would normally take an alternative route if they are by themselves and see older lads in front of them. The point of view of the short film is from the lasses point of view and how she see's her family and her town, every scene has her in it and she's talking throughout the whole thing. The cliff hanger at the end of the short shows the girl throwing a shopping bag into a canal which has a baby inside it, this shocks the audience as there is no hints towards a baby that she and her mother has so to the audience it is up to them to decide who the baby belongs to and the reasoning to her dumbing the dead child in the canal.
